Consumer Group Expresses Concerns on the Coral Sea Holiday Village in Egypt!
HolidayTravelWatch is concerned by the growing number of calls they are receiving from returning and intending UK holidaymakers, who have stayed or intend to stay at the Coral Sea Holiday Village in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. To date, this Organisation has dealt with over 40 calls for assistance, with some 35 reporting holiday illness. We are concerned that within those reporting illness, we have been told that 6 have been advised that they have confirmed Cryptosporidium! On checking our archived ‘Call to Arms’ we can see that this hotel, when known as The Holiday Village Red Sea, came to our attention in May, June & July 2008; this year we have received and demonstrated complaints within our ‘Call to Arms’ during June, July and August for this hotel! In addition to holiday illness complaints, holidaymakers are reporting the following:
- Dirty public toilets;
- Swimming pools subject to repeated closure;
- Margerine & butter held in bowls of iced water;
- Food was cold;
- Chicken was pink;
- Eggs undercooked;
- Milk was warm;
- Sewage smells;
- Holidaymakers advised illness was due to heat exhaustion;
- Holidaymakers report that many others were ill.
HolidayTravelWatch has already called for the Egyptian Tourist Authorities to act on hotel/resort conditions within popular tourist resorts – it repeats that call!
HolidayTravelWatch also calls for action from the hotelier and tour operator to deal with the issues raised by returning holidaymakers and allay any fears from those about to travel to this hotel!
Frank Brehany, the Consumer Director for HolidayTravelWatch states:
“I am genuinely shocked by the detail provided by these complainants, some of which is just too personally graphic to publish! Time and time again we responsibly express concern over the conditions found by holidaymakers, we are not an early warning system, it is clear that tour company reps at this hotel already know of the problem!”
He adds,
“The fact that there is a high proportion of those with confirmed Cryptosporidium in this group is of serious concern. The tour operator and hotelier must act now! As you can see from our press release linked above, waiting for the Egyptian Tourist Authorities to act is like watching paint dry!”
He concludes,
“For those affected by illness from this hotel, we urge you to seek a stool sample test without delay and to call our helpline for further guidance and assistance. I am concerned by the high numbers of calls we have received this year from returning holidaymakers from Egypt; we have just assisted another group of holidaymakers from another resort – holidaymakers must realise, these are serious issues and you are entirely justified in making such holiday complaints”.
If you have been affected by any of the issues raised here, no matter what your destination, then please contact us at HolidayTravelWatch.
